Memorial Day Weekend

The muffled drum's sad roll has beat

The soldier's last tattoo;

No more on Life's parade shall meet

That brave and fallen few.

On Fame's eternal camping-ground

5 Their silent tents are spread,

And Glory guards, with solemn round,

The bivouac of the dead.

-- Bivouac Of The Dead, by Theodore O'Hara

Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service.  In observance of the holiday, many people visit cemeteries and memorials, and volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries.  A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time.

We set aside Memorial Day weekend for time with friends and family at the barbecue in the backyard or maybe on vacation.  The prospects of the elusive 3-day weekend turn into a reunion and a celebration.

Just for a moment, remember those that didn’t come back home from serving our country.  Remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice to maintain and advance the American Way.  Remember those that set the foundation for what we enjoy and celebrate in life.

This Saturday morning in Hunt Valley, celebrate friends.  Celebrate family.  Celebrate all-things automotive.  Among friends, family and all-things automotive, take a deep breath and remember, for just a moment.  Travel safe.  See you all down the road!
