Horsin' Around

A busy work week is nearly in the books.  Not so long ago, the weekend may have involved bonding moments with a snow shovel and the sidewalk.  We longed for the longer, warmer days and the moments where our crazy lives allow us to bring our beloved automobiles out of hibernation.  Have you looked outside?  [Being a busy guy, I’m using the next few moments to get up from the work desk and look outside.  OK, I’m back.]  The warm stuff is here and it’s time for a cruise!

People may go on vacation abroad and buy a rental car to enjoy the beautiful sights.  Also, there’s no doubt that the Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee, the Transfagarasan Highway in Romania [made more popular by Top Gear], the San Juan Skyway in Colorado and Mulholland Highway in California get the job done all too well.  While we may not have the hairpins of the road with the funny name in Romania, right here at home, we’re pretty darned lucky when it comes to beautiful drives.

Coincidentally, there’s one beautiful country cruise that starts when you take a right turn onto Shawan Road from the main entrance of Hunt Valley Towne Centre.  In the Maryland Scenic Byways system, it’s called Horses & Hounds. [Along with the natural automotive theme, it was the surrounding horse country that led to the name of Hunt Valley Horsepower.]

Pack a lunch and make a few stops along the 100-mile route.  Make it a day trip.  Bring the significant other, even if it’s the Labrador retriever.  With our generally reasonable gas prices, it’ll be quite a cheap date…and a change of pace.
