No Time For Hibernation

Last Sunday marked the start of astronomical fall in the Northern Hemisphere.  Based on northern Baltimore County’s latitude, we’ll slide toward chillier mornings and later sunrises with only the end of Daylight Savings Time literally saving us from seeing the sunrise during our gathering time.  [The latest the sun rises is 7:36 AM on Saturday, November 2.]

With shorter and cooler days on the horizon, our community activities certainly aren’t headed for hibernation!  This Saturday, we’ll gather for our traditional 8:00 – 10:00 AM time.  At 9:30 AM, you have the option of traveling with our caravan to Bob Davidson Ford Lincoln for an event that’s exciting for all ages.  You’ll see World Drift Champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. and the RTR Drift Team perform and you may even get a once-in-a-lifetime ride on the drift course with Vaughn!

Also on Saturday, Maryland Public Television presents the MotorWeek CARnival at Lilypons Water Gardens near Frederick, Maryland.  There’s something available to make this grand event fun for everyone in the family!

Both events are detailed on page 6 in the Regional Events section.  Looking even further down the road, investigation is underway for a community track day at Summit Point Motorsports Park.  Many of our community members have been involved in track days with their car clubs and social circles.  Many are also looking for an opportunity to participate in their first track day.  The goal is to provide a safe, educational and exciting experience for first-timers and experienced alike.  As developments arise, information will be shared in a timely fashion.

Last, but not least, check horsepowering.com/classifieds for more information on a commercial casting call for our community’s exotic cars.  According to the production team, late-model marques of interest are Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche as well as late-model cars from other marques that are rare and eye-catching.  In coming weeks, Nike will be filming a commercial in Baltimore that features the chosen car ‘racing’ an athlete wearing Nike’s FuelBand.  Hollywood comes to Baltimore!  Stay tuned.  There’s always something new around the corner!
